Weekend College Paralegal Program a Success for Working Mom!
Weekend Paralegal Program
For Jayme Cowles, the passion for law was always there. But the path her life took led her away from that…until Maria. Now, she’s pursuing her passion with all she’s got.
A student in the paralegal program, Cowles comes to Maria with both work and life experience. Currently, she is employed by Key Bank, where, as a Licensed Branch Manager/Assistant Vice President, she manages a small staff, as well as helps clients with their financial goals, from students just starting out to the elderly planning an estate. She also has legal experience, having worked for a debt collecting law firm.
“I decided on the paralegal program since I have a passion for compliance and customer service/sales in the financial services industry,” Cowles explained. “I enjoy researching, writing and assisting clients in resolving important issues. I originally studied business administration and enjoyed learning about business law. I realize now that I have always had a passion for law and should’ve changed my major many years ago.”
With an impressive 3.93 GPA, Cowles is excited to be a candidate for induction into Maria’s Beta Rho Kappa Chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society.
“I have never been part of a collegiate sorority and look forward to being part of that team,” she said. “I feel that Phi Theta gives a student passion for success, a positive recognition for hard work performed and it displays for future employers that the student is dedicated and successful. I also look at it as an opportunity for students to be able to have financial aid assistance, which will benefit those seeking four-year degrees and beyond.”
Despite a very full schedule, Cowles also enjoys volunteering with the Melrose Fire District Explorer Post program. In this position, she assists young adults and teenagers with life lessons, and helps with fund raising and firefighting drills.
She is also a working mother, and finds Maria’s varied schedule formats to be accommodating to her needs.
“I find the every other weekend classes allow me time to properly prepare for readings, tests and term papers,” she stated. “I feel that Maria does truly care about their students’ success and therefore provides them with the resources to allow it to happen. I am thrilled to be part of their paralegal program and look forward to successful semesters in the future.”
Cowles is a great example of Maria’s values of academic excellence and service to others. “I have a passion to teach and help others, so that they can have a fun, memorable and rewarding life.”
