CLEP Exam
About CLEP
Credit by Examination: College Level Examination Program (CLEP) is a nation-wide credit-by-examination program that offers students an opportunity to obtain recognition for college-level achievement. Maria College grants credit for CLEP when these examinations cover material comparable to that given in courses at the College in areas that can be applied to the Associate Degree. CLEP exams are computer-based exams offered throughout the year by the Office of Student Records for students enrolled in programs at Maria College at a cost of approximately $87.00 per exam. CLEP credits are treated as transfer credits and must be completed the semester prior to when a course is required. If credit has been granted through examination prior to applications to Maria, an official transcript must be sent to the Registrar. It is recommended that students consult with their advisors or with the Academic Dean before applying for CLEP exams. Students should register early for these exams since they can fill up quickly.
There are no current CLEP exams that will be accepted as credit for any of the Bachelors Degree program courses.
Tips for Taking CLEP Exams
CLEP exams are not easy. Before you consider taking a CLEP exam, please go to the Learning Resource Center and look at the CLEP Exam Review Book for the test you plan to take. Try the sample questions in the review book to determine whether you are prepared to take the CLEP exam. If you fail an exam you must wait six months before you can retake it.
