Jessica Evans, OTD, MS, OTR/L

Jessica Evans is a member of the core faculty for the MSOT program at Maria College she is a registered/licensed occupational therapist.

Jessica has taken a strong interest in working with medically complex patients. Jessica took a particular interest in working in the intensive care unit. She piloted many early mobility and ADL participation initiatives and programs alongside fabulous physical therapy and nursing collaborators. From that experience, she learned the value of interdisciplinary care. Jessica was passionate about advocating occupational therapy to be an understood and integral part of the medical team during her time in acute care hospitals.

She campaigned to make occupational therapists eligible to become admissions facilitators for a locally renowned inpatient acute rehabilitation facility. Jessica became the first non-registered nurse to fill the position. The position now is a dynamic, skilled, interdisciplinary team composed of diverse professional backgrounds, each offering a unique, important perspective because of her relentless advocating. She excelled in facilitating the transition from acute care to inpatient acute rehabilitation. She gained extensive medical knowledge while working as a rehabilitation admission facilitator and gained tremendous insight into healthcare systems’ critical needs and operations. She still holds a per diem position to continue to build her knowledge and feels passionate that students gain insight to medical and operational information.

She was interested in assessing and treating functional cognitive deficits. She attended many courses and seminars to improve intervention strategies for this population. In the departments she has been a part of, she continues to educate other professionals about the role and skills occupational therapists have to assess and treat people with cognitive impairment. She is a strong supporter of occupational therapy’s role within this population.  Jessica has worked for some of the most acclaimed facilities in the capital region. These experiences have shaped her professionally, and she has many unique experiences that aid her teaching abilities.
