Lecture: Marianne Comfort

Marianne Comfort serves as justice coordinator for Earth, racism, and women for Sisters of Mercy of the Americas. She coordinates Mercy’s federal advocacy on climate change, environmental justice, and voting rights. She serves on the board of the Laudato Si’ Movement, a global movement to engage Catholics in climate and environmental justice, ecological spirituality, and sustainable lifestyles.

Panelists:

Isaac Silberman-Gorn has a 15-year history of working for climate justice, including playing a key role in New York’s 2015 Fracking Ban. He is currently working to get fossil fuels out of our homes and buildings as well as against false fossil fuel solutions. Isaac will speak briefly about the ACT to BAN CO2 FRACKING passed in the 2024 session of the NY State Legislature.

Reverend John D. Paarlberg is a retired pastor in the Reformed Church in America (RCA), having most recently served as the senior minister of the First Church in Albany. Prior to that he was the RCA Minister for Social Witness and Worship. He chairs the Social Justice Commission of the NY State Council of Churches. John will speak briefly about the Tropical Rainforest Economic & Environmental Sustainability (TREES) Act, passed in the 2024 session of the NY State Legislature.

Anne Rabe serves as environmental policy director for New York Public Interest Research Group. Anne has over 40 years’ experience as a lobbyist, advocate, and senior program coordinator for statewide and national non-profit advocacy organizations. Anne will speak briefly on THE CLIMATE CHANGE SUPERFUND ACT passed in the 2024 session of the NY State Legislature.

Br. Jacek Orzechowski O.F.M., serves as Associate Director of Laudato Si’ Center for Integral Ecology, at Siena College in Loudonville, NY. He will be providing additional information on the Symposium on Integral Ecology on October 10-11, 2024.
