ALBANY, NY—Best Master of Science in Nursing just named 30 small colleges, around the country, to its 2015 “Great Small Colleges for an RN-BSN Degree” list; Maria College is in the top ten.
Accredited public, private non-profit and 4-year schools, offering a Bachelor’s degree in nursing for those that have already earned their RN and with student populations less than 3,000, were reviewed by Best Master of Science in Nursing Degrees. The list was then narrowed to 30 schools with affordability and number of students admitted percentages as their top criterion. Maria College is ranked eighth and also noted for its 75% retention rate from first year to second year students.
Maria College President Dr. Lea A. Johnson, in announcing the 2015 Great Colleges recognition congratulated the nursing leadership, Elizabeth Heywood, PhD, RN, Nursing Chairperson and Ellen Argust, MS, RN, CNOR, RN Baccalaureate Completion Program Director, and the nursing faculty and staff for their dedication to student success. She stated, “I am very proud of the Maria nursing program. We are advancing healthcare outcomes through innovative teaching and mentoring of the next generation of caring and competent nursing professionals. This recognition confirms that small private colleges, like Maria, play a special role in offering quality and affordable nursing education.”
Dr. John Kowal, Vice President for Academic Affairs, praised the Maria RN Baccalaureate Completion Program for it success in developing a Bachelor of Science program for working RNs. He stated, “Maria College is helping licensed nurses expand their knowledge through formal education and also assisting employers achieve professional competency and educational standards to meet the increased demand for patient care.”
