2017 National Nurses Week Celebration Kick-Off
ALBANY, NY—On Friday, May 5 from 10am to 2pm, Maria College Associate Degree in Nursing (RN) students will present their final projects featuring experiences from the service they provided in various community partner settings in the region. The event, “Maria Makes a Mark in the Community” will take place on the Maria College campus in Marian Hall. The public is welcome to attend and meet Maria nursing students and faculty. This will also kick-off the 2017 National Nurses Week (May 6–12).
Community partners include Ronald McDonald house, Atria Crossgate, RISSE, Center for Donation and Transplant, Center for Disability Services and many others. The second year nursing students worked with a community organization to identify a real need. Students were able to apply academic knowledge and critical thinking skills directly related to the NUR260 course learning goals. A reflection piece was included in the assignment to transform the experience into meaningful learning.
According to Chandra Mahna-Andrews, MS, RN, Maria College NUR260 Instructor, “We are very proud of the Maria College nursing students for their collaboration with community partners. Their projects provided meaningful and relevant services to individuals in need. This allowed the students to deepen their reflection on how service to others lives our Mercy mission.”
