“I greatly enjoy the interaction with patients and helping them at their most vulnerable times is very fulfilling. I am very excited about being accepted into Maria’s nursing program as I plan on becoming a RN, then beginning a bachelor’s degree in nursing program after I graduate.”

Maria Spratt, Associate Degree in Nursing Major

Maria came to the College as a recipient of the St. Luke’s Alumni Association Scholarship to pursue an associate degree in nursing (RN). She was born in Santiago, Chile and came to the U.S. in 2002 with an associate degree in Travel and Tourism and pursued a successful career in business. After relocating to the U.S., she did not feel fulfilled and wanted a career with meaning.

The healthcare industry attracted her for being able to do things that truly, “mattered”. She earned certification as a Nurse Aide and entered the healthcare field as a CNA. She then began taking college courses that are required in the nursing program and researched nursing schools in the region and set her sights on Maria for its strong reputation in the nursing field. After completing her prerequisites she was accepted into Maria’s associate degree program in the fall ‘17. Maria stated, “It is challenging to juggle my family and school responsibilities, but it is my dream to become a nurse and I’m very happy to have been accepted into Maria’s nursing program”.
