Maria Story: Emily Hilton, Nursing, AAS (RN) ‘21

Emily Hilton, ’21, Senior in the Maria College ADN program shared, ‘I decided to volunteer because I work in a hospital and when Covid started, nobody knew what to think, nobody knew what to do, so it is really great to be a part of the solution. I’ve been with patients who have found out the terrible news [positive Covid test results] all by themselves.”

“Being a part of this hopeful solution was absolutely amazing and I was very excited to participate.”

Emily has volunteered 2-3 times per week since the release of the vaccinations, volunteering for the maximum amount of hours she has been allowed, at Albany Med, Ellis, Glens Falls and Saratoga Hospitals. The very first week she started was Christmas week, and Emily shared, “People were so excited, and of course some were nervous, but so many shared that this was the best Christmas present they could have received.”

Some of the patients that Emily was able to vaccinate were those who lost family members to Covid. She shared that these individuals, in particular, were very grateful and felt this was a step in the right direction to returning to normalcy.
