Rural Nursing

Rural Nursing Program: Expanding Healthcare Education

The nursing shortage in rural communities significantly impacts access to quality healthcare, leaving residents with limited options for timely medical attention. To address this critical issue, Maria College, SUNY Cobleskill, and Bassett Healthcare Network have joined forces to bring quality nursing education to rural upstate New York.

Program Highlights:
  • 16-month weekend Practical Nurse Certificate Program starting January 2025
  • Future expansion to include Associate and Bachelor’s degrees
  • Courses at SUNY Cobleskill with weekend training at Maria College in Albany
  • Clinical experiences provided by Bassett Healthcare Network
  • Curriculum tailored to rural healthcare needs
This partnership aims to address the critical nursing shortage in rural communities while providing students with top-tier education and local career opportunities. By increasing the number of qualified nurses in rural areas, we can improve access to essential healthcare services and enhance the overall quality of care for rural residents.
