Fundraiser walk co-hosted by Maria College and Circles of Mercy as part of Mercy Week
ALBANY, N.Y. (Sept. 23, 2021) – Maria College and the Circles of Mercy will co-host the 2021 Walk for Mercy on Tuesday, Sept. 28 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The 2K (1.24 mile) walk will start and end at Marian Hall on the Maria College campus and is free to attend. Tee shirts will be given to the first 50 walkers and refreshments will be provided.
The Walk for Mercy serves as a fundraising event to support individuals facing financial needs or hardships in their lives, specifically challenges that impact academic success. Proceeds from the event will benefit low-income and disenfranchised families and individuals, including women and women with children.
“Maria College is elated to be able to host the Walk for Mercy and all other Mercy Week events in person again this year,” said Thomas J. Gamble Ph.D, President of Maria College. “The walk’s fundraising efforts are centered on health, wellness, and education in our community; tying Maria’s core values and the collective mission of resuming education safely in-person this school year together. Bringing individuals closer to academic success with this financial support will undoubtably make an impact. We’re thankful we could work together with the Circles of Mercy to make this possible.”
“Circles started partnering with Maria College on the ‘Walk for Mercy’ beginning in 2018 as a mutual effort to help raise funds for our various programs that support the poor, sick and uneducated in our community,” said Richard Zazycki, Director Circles of Mercy. “It is just a natural way to integrate our similar missions given that both organizations are sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy. Simply stated; Mercy helping Mercy – what a great concept!”
Free parking is available on the Maria College campus. To RSVP for the Mercy Walk, call 518-462-0899 or email circlesofmercy@nycap.rr.com by Sept. 24.
The Walk for Mercy is part of this year’s Mercy Week at Maria College, Friday Sept. 24 through Oct. 1. Mercy Day, September 24, is the anniversary of the opening of the first “House of Mercy” in 1827 in Dublin, Ireland by Catherine McAuley, founder of the Sisters of Mercy.
