Maria College Inaugural Lecture investigates healthcare innovation opportunities

Albany, NY – On Thursday, April 27, Maria College welcomed Eric H. Ledet, Ph.D., Vice President of Research & Development and Director of the Health Innovations Incubator & Technology Center at the Center for Disability Services, to campus to deliver a lecture entitled, “A Brief Introduction to the 37,241,859 Opportunities for Innovation in Healthcare Today.” The lecture was followed by a conversation with Dr. Ledet and Maria College President Lynn Ortale, Ph.D.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Ledet to the campus for our Inaugural Lecture, the first in our Presidential lecture series,” says Maria College President Lynn Ortale, Ph.D. “Dr. Ledet’s ideas are inspiring and thought-provoking, enriching our understanding of the opportunities available right here in the Capital Region to improve healthcare as we know it.”

In today’s rapidly evolving healthcare landscape, innovation is crucial for addressing challenges and creating solutions that can transform the industry. Dr. Ledet is a biomedical engineer, researcher, and award-winning educator, and he shared his insights with the Maria College community in an engaging and enlightening discussion of the future of healthcare. The audience learned how emerging technologies and innovative approaches can reshape healthcare and create new opportunities for improving patient outcomes.

“Dr. Ledet’s innovative approach to healthcare aligns well with Maria College’s strategic initiatives, such as our new virtual reality nursing simulation hub in which students gain experience in a controlled environment to help build their confidence and improve patient care,” shares Chief Academic Officer, Dr. Anne Jung.

The Inaugural Lecture featuring Dr. Ledet was the first in the Maria College President’s Lecture Series, which seeks to promote the spirit of academic inquiry and commitment to research-informed practice by engaging in critical conversations in healthcare with leading area academics, researchers, and practitioners.

The event coincided with the inauguration of Dr. Lynn Ortale as Maria College’s sixth president. Her installation will take place on Saturday, March 6, at the Parish of Mater Christi in Albany.

Other inaugural events include an Interfaith Prayer Service on May 5 and an Inaugural Gala to follow the installation on May 6. To learn more about the College’s inaugural events, visit http://mariacollege.edu/inauguration-2023.
