Family Nurse Practitioner
Midstate Medical Center in Meriden, CT

What led you to Maria College?

A very close friend of mine graduated from the nursing program there and had wonderful things to say about the program. Once I visited the school from CT, I immediately could see myself on the campus as a student.

What did you study here?

Associates of Applied Science in Nursing

What do you remember most vividly about your time at Maria College?

I most vividly remember spending most of my time studying. I spent a lot of time in the library, the courtyard, or in Marion hall studying with my friends who were also in the nursing program. It was convenient to study on campus because the professors were available for questions if they came up. The school also provided multiple places to study and hold study groups.

How did Maria prepare you for your next step?

Maria College prepared me in many ways for my career. I felt the program was rigorous in a way that it prepared me fully for the NCLEX exam. The professors at the school also encouraged us frequently to continuing schooling for our BSN and MSN. It was that encouragement that had me continuing my education only a few months after I graduated from Maria with my associate’s degree.

What would you consider your greatest professional accomplishment?

My greatest professional accomplishment has been achieving my Masters degree and working as a nurse practitioner. I work in Oncology, which has also been a huge passion of mine.

What piece of advice would you give to current Maria students?

Advice I would give to current Maria students would be to work hard and study. Establishing good study habits sets you up for success educationally and professionally. Take advantage of the wealth of knowledge the professors have in their areas of expertise. I learned so much from my professors during school.

If employed, what is your current position?

Family nurse practitioner at Midstate Medical Center. I specialize in hematology and oncology. Family nurse practitioner instructor at Sacred Heart University (teaching advanced health assessment to NP students).

Please share any hobbies and/or interests.

I like to read, constantly studying new research and leisure reading. I love going to the beach and spending time with my family and friends. I also enjoy my second job which is teaching nurse practitioner students advanced health assessment.
