Sally McCartney Nolan ’75

Chair of the Maria Fund

Alumni Spotlight: November 2016

Sally is currently the Chair of the Maria Fund — Maria’s annual giving campaign. She lives in Loudonville, N.Y., with her husband Dan and has two grown children.

What led you to Maria College?
I graduated from Troy High in 1973 and my parents and I were looking at smaller two-year colleges to start out. Maria looked like a good fit.

What did you study during your time here?
I enrolled in the legal assistant program and was able to find a job right away at a law firm. I worked there for 10 years and loved it. I credit the school for a great education.

What do you remember most about your time at Maria College?
I loved the small classes and the warm environment. Everyone was so friendly. They were some of the nicest two years of my life.

Have you stayed in touch with any of your classmates?
On my first day, I met Kathy Nolan (now Montesano) and we became best friends and remain best friends to this day. Through the years, I’ve kept in touch with some classmates and it was fun to see some of them at the class reunion we held last fall at the college.

Why are you interested in being involved at Maria?
I know the college is going through a bit of a transformation with an increased focus on its core mission — the success of its students, particularly those who might not otherwise have a chance to succeed. The new student support center will play an important role in this. I’m proud of Maria and it’s nice to get involved and give back. I am thrilled to be chairing the Annual Fund and hope that alumni will do what they can to show their appreciation for the role Maria had in enriching their lives.
