Amelia Foss-Machlowski is currently employed at St. Peter’s Hospital in their general surgery department where she helps with clinical and clerical work office work. She has enjoyed working with doctors but also felt like furthering her education would be the next logical step in her career.
Thanks to a partnership between Maria College and St. Peter’s Health Care Partners, Amelia was able to enroll in the Practical Nurse Certificate (LPN) weekend program at Maria College. St. Peter’s Health Care Partners pays for her tuition in exchange for her commitment to work for them upon graduation. The program is mutually beneficial for both the hospital and the students as the end result means the hospital acquires more nurses during a time when the shortage is at an all-time high, and students have the opportunity to advance their career.
With her busy schedule balancing life, work and family, Amelia enrolled in the weekend program.
“It has been super helpful to be able to work full time to support myself and my family while also attending college. So weekend classes are a wonderful option for people who need that flexibility.”
Attending Maria College has proven to be a decision well-made for Amelia. The support she has received from her classmates and professors has solidified for her that enrolling at Maria was the right decision.

Amelia plans to graduate with her Practical Nurse Certificate from Maria College in the spring of 2024. She will take her NCLEX-PN to become certified. The Maria College Practical Nurse Certificate (LPN) program boasts consistently higher-than-average NCLEX-PN pass rates.
