A Sense of Humor

Did you know that April is National Humor Month?
There’s even a website for the month!

Interviewing a college applicant, the dean of admissions asks, “If you could have a conversation with someone, living or dead, who would it be?” The student thinks this over, then answers, “The living one.” (Click for reference)

A guy shows up late for work. The boss yells “You should have been here at 8:30!” he replies: “Why? What happened at 8:30?”  (Click for reference)

I was on the subway, sitting on a newspaper, and a guy comes over and asks “Are you reading that?” I didn’t know what to say. So I said yes. I stood up, turned the page, and sat down again. (Click for reference)

Did you also know that laughing has been shown to have some positive physical and psychological benefits such as boosting the immune system and relieving stress?
Check out this short explanation of some of the benefits from the Mayo Clinic.

Additionally, the ability to laugh with others and to laugh at ourselves improves our social connections with others, and one of the key traits that all employers are looking for these days is a person’s ability to work with others in teams.

Harvey Mackay, the author of several inspirational books on how to find success in business and the owner one of the largest envelope producing businesses in the country that earns over $100 million dollars a year and produces over 25 million envelopes a day (Click for reference), actually inspired me to write this blog when I read his weekly syndicated column this past Tuesday entitled “A Sense of Humor Is No Joke.”  Give the column a read yourself; I think you will be inspired to laugh a bit more each day.

For me, I know I will definitely laugh if I watch comedy routines by Jerry Seinfeld or Louis C. K.  The Lip Sync Battles on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon usually have me rolling on the floor laughing. And, come on, be honest now: some of those cute kitten videos on YouTube are good for a laugh or two.

So, celebrate National Humor Month every day this month with a good, strong belly laugh!

And share what makes you laugh the most!

Anne
