Here we go with the first Maria College blog!
I am really looking forward to sharing all sorts of ideas, information, events, and whatever (!) through my own posts and the posts of other bloggers here at Maria College, and I look forward to getting to know you through your comments too! Since we are kicking off with this first blog entry, I got thinking about “firsts” that have been happening over this past academic year both here at the College and around the world.
February 28, 2016: Leonardo DiCaprio wins his first-ever Academy Award for Best Actor after twenty-five years acting in films.
January 2016: The Anatomage virtual dissection table makes its first appearance in BIO 330-Gross Anatomy. The College has two Anatomage tables which are similar to large iPads and allow students to view and dissect life-sized human models.
January 2016: Students from the Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology begin the first-ever internships at the College with students gaining real-world experience in businesses and practices related to the field of psychology.
August 24, 2015: Maria College introduces its first Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Arts with concentrations in government and communications.
October 6, 2015: Microsoft introduces its first laptop, the Surface Book, forty-one years after Microsoft started as a company founded by Bill Gates and Paul Allen.
September 22-27, 2015: Pope Francis makes his first visit to the United States which includes saying masses in various cities, meeting with dignitaries and citizens, and speaking in front of a joint session of Congress as he introduces the Year of Mercy which runs from December 2015 to November 2016. September 13, 2015: Sarah Thomas, the first full-time female NFL referee, officiated at her first professional game on between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Houston Texans. Ms. Thomas was named the first full-time NFL official in NFL history on April 8, 2015.
